This Privacy Policy explains what information the Amari mobile application (“Amari,” the “App”) collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the control you have over it.

Amari is an independent app, built and operated by its developer (“we,” “us,” “our”), based in Australia.

Amari is a relationship app for couples. The information you give it is personal by nature, and we have built the App so that as little of it as possible leaves your phone. This policy describes exactly what does.

1. Summary

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We do not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking, and we do not ask for permission to track you.
  • We do not use your information, your partner’s information, or anything you write in Amari to train any artificial intelligence model — ours or anyone else’s.
  • Photos you attach to memories stay on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers.
  • You can delete your account and its data from inside the App at any time (More → Delete account).

2. Information we collect

2.1 Account information

  • Sign in with Apple identifier. You create your account with Sign in with Apple. We receive a user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and an email address (which may be Apple’s private relay address). We do not receive your Apple ID password.

2.2 Profile and relationship information you enter

  • Your name, birthday, love language(s), favourites and preferences, a short self-description, and an optional profile photo (avatar).
  • The same categories about your partner, where you choose to enter them.
  • Your relationship start date, anniversaries, birthdays, and other countdowns and milestones you create.
  • Allergies, dislikes, dietary notes, and similar preferences, if you choose to enter them so that suggestions can take them into account.

2.3 Content you create in the App

  • Memories and notes, including titles, descriptions, dates and an optional place.
  • Quiz and question answers, weekly check-ins, appreciations, mood entries, gift ideas, budgets, and comments or reactions on shared items.
  • Anything you type into the Amari AI assistant, including any image you choose to attach to an “Ask Amari” question.

2.4 Location information

  • Amari requests “When In Use” location access only if you turn on location sharing. It is off unless you enable it.
  • When enabled, your device’s location is used to show the distance between you and your partner, and is shared with your linked partner.
  • An approximate location is also used to fetch local weather.
  • You can withdraw location access at any time in the App (More → Location) or in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

2.5 Photos

  • With your permission, Amari can read photos you select from your photo library so you can attach them to a memory or use one as your avatar.
  • Memory photos are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers or shared with your partner through our systems.
  • Your profile avatar is stored on our servers and shown to your linked partner.

2.6 Device and technical information

  • An Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token, so your partner’s nudges can reach you. Most of Amari’s reminders are scheduled locally on your device and involve no server at all.
  • Basic technical data needed to operate the service, such as your authentication session, timestamps for syncing, and server logs (including IP address) generated by our hosting provider.

2.7 Subscription information

  • If you buy Amari Pro, Apple processes the payment. We do not receive or store your card number or billing address.
  • Our subscription provider (RevenueCat) tells us whether your subscription is active, along with a purchase identifier linked to your account. We use this only to unlock Pro features for you and your partner.

3. Information we do not collect

We do not collect your contacts, your calendar, health or fitness data from Apple Health, microphone or camera streams, browsing history, or advertising identifiers (IDFA). Amari contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

4. How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

  • Create and maintain your account and keep you signed in.
  • Link you with your partner and keep the two devices in sync.
  • Provide the App’s core features: countdowns, memories, quizzes, check-ins, moods, appreciations and reminders.
  • Generate personalised suggestions through the Amari AI assistant, including taking stated allergies and dislikes into account.
  • Send you the reminders and partner nudges you have enabled.
  • Show the distance between you and your partner, and local weather, when you have turned location sharing on.
  • Determine your Amari Pro entitlement and apply fair-use limits.
  • Keep the service secure, prevent abuse, debug problems, and comply with legal obligations.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (operating the App and your account); your consent (location sharing, notifications, photo access, and sending your information to our AI provider); our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and maintaining the service); and legal obligation where applicable. You may withdraw consent at any time, which will not affect processing carried out before withdrawal.

5. Artificial intelligence and third-party AI processing

Amari’s suggestion features are powered by Claude, an AI model provided by Anthropic, PBC (“Anthropic”), a third-party AI provider.

  • What is sent. When you use an AI feature, our server sends Anthropic the context relevant to that request. This can include first names or nicknames, love languages, listed favourites, dislikes and allergies, relationship dates, your general location or city where relevant to a suggestion, the question or situation you typed, and any image you explicitly attach to an “Ask Amari” question.
  • Consent. Amari asks for your permission before using any AI feature for the first time, and AI features do not run unless you enable them. If you do not consent, the App still works; suggestions are generated by built-in rules on your device instead.
  • No training. Neither we nor Anthropic use your information, your partner’s information, or your Amari content to train any AI model. We do not train a model of our own on user data, and we do not permit our providers to do so.
  • Retention. We do not store the text of your AI prompts or any attached image on our servers. We store only a per-day counter used to enforce fair use limits. Anthropic processes each request in order to return a response and handles that data under its own terms; see Anthropic’s privacy policy.
  • Limitations. AI output can be inaccurate or inappropriate. Please read sections 6 and 9 of our Terms of Use before acting on a suggestion, particularly where allergies or safety are involved.

Please do not paste other people’s private messages, or any government identifier, financial record or medical record, into the AI assistant.

6. What your partner can see

Amari is designed to be shared. When you link with a partner using an invite code, the following becomes visible to that person:

  • Your name, avatar, birthday, love languages, favourites, self-description and other profile details you have entered.
  • Shared content: memories you create, countdowns, quiz and question answers, check-ins, appreciations, mood entries, gift ideas and comments.
  • Your location and the distance between you, but only while you have location sharing switched on.

Only link with someone you trust, and make sure an invite code reaches the person you intend. You can unlink at any time (More → Leave & start over).

Leaving a couple removes your own data from the shared space, but your partner keeps the copy of shared content already stored on their device, and items you both contributed to may remain in their account with your authorship removed. We cannot recall content that has already synced to another person’s phone.

7. When we share information

We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not disclose it to advertisers or data brokers.

We share information only with:

  • Your linked partner, as described in section 6.
  • Supabase Inc. — hosting, authentication, and the database holding your account and synced content.
  • Anthropic, PBC — AI processing, as described in section 5.
  • Apple Inc. — Sign in with Apple, purchase processing, and delivery of push notifications through APNs.
  • RevenueCat, Inc. — subscription status and entitlement management.
  • Open-Meteo — receives approximate coordinates only, in order to return a local forecast. No account identifier is sent.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or ourselves. If our business is ever transferred, we will give you notice in the App before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

8. International transfers

Our providers operate servers in the United States and other countries, so your information may be processed outside your country of residence. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers out of the EEA or the UK.

9. How long we keep information

We keep your account information and synced content for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account in the App, your account and the data we hold for it are removed from our live systems immediately and purged from encrypted backups within 30 days. AI fair-use counters and minimal security and transaction records may be kept for up to 12 months where we need them for security, accounting or legal reasons. Content that has already synced to your partner’s device remains on their device, as described in section 6.

10. Security

Information travels between your device and our servers over TLS-encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Database access is restricted by row-level security rules so that only you and your linked partner can read your couple’s data, and administrative access is limited. Your authentication session is stored in the iOS Keychain.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

11. Your rights and choices

Wherever you live, you can:

  • Access and edit your profile, your partner’s profile and your content directly in the App.
  • Turn location sharing off (More → Location, or iOS Settings).
  • Turn notifications off (More → Preferences, or iOS Settings).
  • Revoke photo library access in iOS Settings.
  • Unlink from your partner (More → Leave & start over).
  • Delete your account and its data (More → Delete account). This is permanent and cannot be undone.

If you are in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, or a jurisdiction with comparable law, you also have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, to data portability, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, to request correction or deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we do not process it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

To exercise any right that is not available directly in the App, email amariaiapp@gmail.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law, normally within 30 days. We may need to verify that a request comes from the account holder.

12. Information about your partner

Amari lets you record details about your partner. Only enter information about another person if they know and agree. Do not record information about someone without their knowledge.

If you are someone whose details have been entered into Amari by another user and you want that information corrected or deleted, email amariaiapp@gmail.com and we will act on your request as required by applicable law. We may need enough information to identify the relevant records.

13. Children

Amari is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it. A parent or guardian who believes their child has provided information to Amari can contact amariaiapp@gmail.com.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. The current version is always published at amariapp.com/privacy and linked in the App under More → Privacy Policy. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the App before it takes effect and update the “Last updated” date above.
